Helping Hands

About 2 weeks ago, Bella (my oldest, 7), expressed her little, but oh so big dream, "helping hands". We were gathered at our dinner table having our usual conversation, of how our day went, what made that day special, analyzing all the blessings we have and so forth. As we start to go deeper in our conversation of how fortunate we are, that we may not have the fanciest house, the most expensive car, clothes, etc, but we are extremely blessed with what we have, because it is enough for us... she expresses her sadness for those that don't and says "mommy, daddy... I have a dream of helping those people" so her daddy asks "ok Bella, tell us what you have in mind" in her innocent child heart, she starts saying she wants to give them a house, a bed, and the list goes on. We explain to her that though those are great ideas, she needed to start small, with things that she (us) is (are) able to provide. She says "ok, I want to make a box and collect food for those people". Her daddy and I were humbled to presence such genuine gesture and so we dream with her!!

Her daddy tells her she can speak at our church to get people to jump abroad and I step in to help decorate a box, yay! We concluded that once we fill the box we will take it to a food bank. But which one?!

This dream touched us in deeper depths than you can imagine, "why?", you might ask. My husband and I, one time in our lives benefited from a food bank. Some people might feel ashamed or uncomfortable of exposing such time in their lives, but, I believe our hardships and struggles build strong characters in us and truly make us to be more appreciative for what we have. Both our parents went through a period where they were making just enough to keep a roof over our heads and pay bills. Believe it or not we were both blessed from the same food bank "Grace Food Ministries", what a coincidence! At that time the name was "New Zion". Because of people that were willing to give with open hearts, we were blessed! Fast foward over to our present and here we sit listening to our little girl talk about helping those in need and what a blessing this is, to be in a way, paying it forward, giving back. As you might of already guessed, we will be taking the donations to that same food bank that once helped our parents, our family.

Two Sundays ago she spoke at our church and it was impossible to contain my tears from falling down my cheeks.

So, today, I want you to be reminded where you have come from, the hardships you might have experienced and how far you have come and ABOVE all... YOU are BLESSED!

Sometimes we get caught with everything we want and forget that we have ALL we need! Not saying you shouldn't dream big and aspire for greater things but be thankful for the small and big things in your life. Even if you are going through a tough time right now remember it will pass, all will pass, keep pushing forward, for God is with you!

XOXO, Sarah Vieira
